The idea of “going beyond asana” quite literally begins with pranayama. This unique approach to the management of prana - our vital and mental force - through breath, is the next stage of hatha yoga, after asana has been sufficiently mastered. Subtle and powerful at the same time, pranayama can bring about radiant physical health, a strong immune system, stability in the nervous system, and a calm and focussed mind - however, solid preparation is essential.
Included are:
- pre-pranayama techniques, including several methods of deep breathing and lung expansion,
-
abdominal breathing techniques,
-
nadi shodhana (alternate nostril breathing),

bhramari (bumblebee breath),

This course is a journey into the great science of bhakti yoga. Rather than focussing only on its most popular aspect - the mantras and kirtans, though definitely including a few - we will also practise various meditations, and work on the nine areas (“steps”) that bhakti yoga asks us to develop in, in order to transform our base, limited, selfish emotions into the uplifting, liberating force known as bhakti.
The main areas of focus are:
- How to train the heart to be open and strong at the same time
-
Transforming limiting attitudes, moods and feelings into positive, uplifting and expansive
-
Meditations and satsang
-
Mantra singing and japa
-
Learning kirtan and basic instrument / harmonium accompaniments
-
Understanding and practising the nine stages of bhakti yoga, as described and taught by the Bihar School of Yoga.
When: Friday at 7:30pm (19h30)
Duration: 90min
Level: all levels
Language: English
Where: Online only
Gentle, easy-to-do, and effective methods to unwind, destress, and clear your mind through

-
the practice of mudra (yogic “gestures” or “attitudes”)
-
progressive practices for the focussing of your mind and eliminating sources of tension
-
techniques of deep relaxation and awareness-boosting meditation
All of this is done at a very gradual pace, evolving in four parts (4 weeks each), each time with a different focus.
